Floral Engagement Card

Floral Engagement Card

I have a gorgeous card to share with you this afternoon. So excited about this one. First though I wanted to introduce my product of the week: the Bloom & Grow stamp set! This is a floral photopolymer stamp set and it has some really lovely sentiments. The “Forever Starts Today” sentiment is on that I used today – it’s perfect for a wedding or engagement card!

This card I made for my Canadian Brother and his fiancee. A quick story: I did a semester aboard in 2003. I went to the University of Alberta in Edmonton Canada and while there I became friends with a very lovely lady. I was missing my mama and she was missing her son who was overseas working. We quickly became close and she became my “replacement mum” and I her “replacement child”. Days before I was to fly home, her son came home and I finally got to meet him. I was introduced: “Paul, meet your sister”. I’m so thrilled that my brother has found someone to share the rest of his life with and of course I had to make a special card for this occasion:

This card was inspired by one that we had demonstrated to us at OnStage in April. The lovely Andrea from head office in Utah had the pleasure of introducing us to the Bloom & Grow stamp set. In her sample she showed us how we can watercolour the area around the stamped image before die cutting. When you watercolour it in a colour that matches the background card stock the die cut piece just blends into it and this creates a very different look from the usual white boarder of a die cut stamped image. Here is Andrea’s card:

Here is a few close ups of my card (sorry I couldn’t pick just one):

I created this card by stamping and heat embossing the floral image from the Bloom & Grow stamp set on to the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I then painted the flowers in using Rococo Rose and So Saffron. For the leaves I used Pretty Peacock and So Saffron. This was one of the first times I’ve remembered that I can colour my images in more than one colour. I often gravitate to colouring in one colour. A sample by demonstrator Lousie Sharp reminded me that I can mix things up a little.

I love to bring some element of the card front to the inside of the card. Today I use shimmery white cardstock inside as I used it on the front of the card. Then I added a strip of watercolour paper which I painted a gradient using the same colours as on the front of the card.

For the envelope, I stamped the same flowers to be emerging from underneath the envelope flap. This mimics how the flowers are behind the sentiment on the card front. I did stamp this in Silvery Shimmer Delicata Metallic Ink. This is completely optional. You can use grey ink or even Versamark. The Delicata Metallic Ink will be available from my online store from 4th September 2019. It is in the 2019 Holiday Catalogue. Click here to request a copy of the catalogue.

Thank you for visiting my blog! I hope that I’ve inspired you to be creative.

Bye for now!
