Supporting HeartKids Super Boss Day with Card Blog Hop

Hi everyone! I’m super excited about sharing with you today’s project and to be participating in the HeartKids Superboss Day Blog Hop! HeartKids is an amazing non for profit organisation which helps Australian families affected by congenital/childhood heart disease (CDH). Their aim is to help  those with CDH and their families to lead the most fulfilling life possible.

I have a little friend, Hamish, who by the age of 18 months had THREE open heart surgeries. His first surgery was at 4 months of age. HeartKids has helped Hamish and his family a lot. I think they are just amazing and I dedicate this card to them.

For today’s blog hop we have decided on the theme of Blue and Red as they are HearKids colours. Here is my card:

I would like to share some facts about CHD before I provide more details on my card.

  • There is no known cure.
  • Eight babies are born with a heart condition in Australia every day.
  • Congenital heart disease is the most common birth abnormality, affecting 1 in every 100 babies.
  • HeartKids provide life-long support for heart kids and their families.
  • Congenital heart disease is the leading cause of death of Australian babies.
  • Thanks to medical advances, there are over 32,000 adults who have lived with a heart condition since childhood!

To create this card who’s layout was inspired by Julie Smith:

  1. Prepare card base in Whisper White card stock.
  2. Prepare card stock for the card front:
    1. Whisper White 80mm x 148.5mm
    2. Blueberry Bushel 15mm x 148.5mm
    3. Poppy Parade 15mm x 148.5mm
    4. Window Sheet 90mm x 60mm
  3. Using a Big Shot do the following:
    1. Using the largest jar die from the Everyday Jars Framelits cut out the jar shape from the middle of the Whisper White card front.
    2. On the strips of Blueberry Bushel and Poppy Parade cardstock emboss the stitch edge and the cross stitch edge using the dies from the Stitches Label Framelits.
    3. From scraps of Blueberry Bushel and Poppy Parade cut hearts out from the Everyday Jars Framelits and the Stitches Label Framelits.
  4. Stamp the following in Versamark ink and use the mentioned embossing powder and then heat set. (TIP: remember to use the Embossing Buddy first)
    1. The jar lid from Jars of Love stamp set on Silver Foil Sheet and emboss in Clear
    2. Two little leave springs from the Jars of Love stamp set on Whisper White and emboss in Silver
    3. The largest jar from Jars of Love stamp set on the Window Sheet and emboss in Black
    4. The sentiment “Bless Your Heart” from the Jars of Love stamp set underneath cut area of the jar on the card front and emboss in Black.
  5. To assemble the card:
    1. Adhere the Window Sheet to the back of the Whisper White card front so that the card is lined up in the hole.
    2. Attach the Blueberry Bushel and the Poppy Parade strips to either side of the card front.
    3. Around the jar opening place Foam Adhesive Strips and add them to the edges of the card front too.
    4. Place all the heart cut outs into the jar area and then place the card base on top of the Foam Adhesive Strips.
    5. Attach the jar lid, the leave springs and hearts to the card to finish off.

I thought the sentiment “Bless Your Heart” was perfect for this project and I just love love love the little stitched hearts from the new Stitches Labels Framelits.

Thank you Cheryll, it has been my concept since thinking up the blog hop and so happy with how it turned out. When I saw the stitched hearts it completely sold me on those framelits. I’m so happy my order arrived on time. Thanks so much for visiting and participating.
